Hotel Playa Costa Verde – Salmonella in Cuban Hotel Reported

  • Poor hygiene standards blamed for hotel food poisoning
  • Holidaymakers urged to seek urgent medical advice
  • Thomas Cook holiday complaints received by our Travel Law Team

Simpson Millar Solicitors are being contacted by holidaymakers returning from the Hotel Playa Costa Verde in Cuba who are furious at having contracted illness at this 4 star all-inclusive hotel located near Pesquero Beach.

Initial enquiries suggest that a large number of British travellers have fallen fowl of a debilitating sickness bug – salmonella. Further reports are expected once the results of stool samples are available.

The illness symptoms experienced by holidaymakers at the Hotel Playa Costa Verde include profuse and irrepressible diarrhoea, painful stomach cramps, fever and nausea.

Simon Lomax, Holiday Illness and Accident Claims Manager said:

“The holidaymakers who have instructed us have reporting a large outbreak. Reports on TripAdvisor suggest salmonella has been isolated from travellers upon their return to the UK.”

Holiday illness abroad

It appears that food hygiene standards at this hotel are not as they should have been causing a spate of gastric illness. Salmonella is an infectious and communicable bug – it is often transmitted by food or drinking water which have been contaminated by faeces, either directly or by flies and other insects.

Expect to be contacted by your local Environmental Health officer if your have been diagnosed with salmonella in Cuba.

Tour operator’s representatives should be advising ill holidaymakers to seek urgent medical advice from a qualified medical practitioner.

Salmonella is not caused by an airborne virus, over indulgence, change in temperature – and any advice given to the contrary would be extremely foolish. If left untreated the illness can cause serious long term health issues.

Holidaymaker seeking compensation

We are seeking to recover a sizeable amount of compensation for those holidaymakers who suffer sickness due to poor hygiene standards or food poisoning at the Hotel Playa Costa Verde in Cuba. British holidaymakers should not be subjected to poor hygiene and sanitation whilst on a package holiday abroad.
